‘Smallville” Season 11…In Comic Book Form

Posted by okarbank on February 13, 2012

Don’t get me wrong, I found myself immensely entertained by the Smallville TV show and wished it could’ve gone on until the ends of time. However, once it ended i found myself acceptant towards the fact that it was done for good. Yet, here we are, introducing Season 11 of the show in the format that I doubt many people were excepting and/or hoping for: in the form of a comic. Granted it’ll be curious to see what shenanigans the writers pull out of their hats, since the show already introduced things like the Justice League, Doomsday, and Darkseid, and really, there aren’t that many threats left open to Superman within the Smallville universe, but we’ll see, as odds are I’ll convince myself to buy the book and see what precious little gems it has to offer.

“The Bourne Legacy” Trailer

Posted by okarbank on February 13, 2012

Unless you went out to see “Safe House” over the weekend, odds are good that you probably haven’t seen the trailer to the latest installment in the Bourne movie franchise. Not starring Matt Damon, but starring the incredibly tubular Jeremy Renner, you can tell the filmmakers went through a great deal of effort to ensure the feel of this movie is like that of all the others. I know people often complain about the fight sequences to these films, how they are too fast and kind of choppy, but I don’t care; I love it.

Abraham Lincoln vs. Vampires…What More Could You Ask For?

Posted by okarbank on February 13, 2012

I’m a huge fan of anything Timur Bekmambetov gets his Russian hands on. From “Night Watch” to “Wanted”, his unique style and filmmaking abilities have the tendency to make me squeal with delight. With “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”, everything I’d want from the director is present. I’m really digging how they appraoch the material, not with a campy attitude, but with a genuinely serious approach, as thought Lincoln really did have mad kung-fu skills, some of which he presumably acquired through cutting down trees with a single stroke, in order to fight hordes of undead baddies. So yea, I’m excited.

“The Avengers” Extended Super Bowl Commercial…I’m Speechless

Posted by okarbank on February 7, 2012

Okay, that’s not entirely true. But I will say that I have not been more impressed by a short trailer, then with “The Avengers”. Granted, we all saw the teaser that popped up as a Super Bowl commercial, but the extended version…damn, it’s just so much better. At this point, all I need is for the movie to come out tomorrow and I’ll be happy. “The Avengers” looks bloody fantastic, and unless you don’t like movies, you’ll probably agree.

The Best Retelling of the Death of Superman…of All Time!!

Posted by okarbank on February 7, 2012

Director John Landis’ son, Max Landis, took it upon himself  to give one of the most gloriously nerdy rants of all time. While clearly a comic book fan, Max apparently is not a fan of the ‘Death of Superman’ story arc, engaging in a 16 minute diatribe about each and every piece of insanity that found its way into this classic tale. What makes the video that much better, is the inclusion of actors like Elijah Wood, Simon Pegg, and Mandy Moore, all acting out key scenes from the comics. Honestly though, I couldn’t think of a more entertaining way to spend sixteen minutes.

‘The Avengers’ Trailer is Finally Here!!!!

Posted by okarbank on October 11, 2011

I. Love. It. Radiating pure awesomeness, the trailer for next summer’s The Avengers gives us a taste of everything we want to see and more. Honestly, I’m going to have to watch this about half a dozen times before I can get off my couch. Ignoring the terrible music throughout the trailer, everything else looks picture perfect. Of course I want to know things like why Thor is fighting Captain America and why we so little of the Hulk, but these are all questions I have the patience to wait for. Oh god, I adore this trailer!!

‘In Time’ Trailer

Posted by okarbank on August 7, 2011

It was everything I could do to not slap on a sarcastic title for this article. Anyway, moving on…I’m a huge sucker for science fiction movies, that’s just how I work. However, I like to think I’m more than capable of differentiating between and good sci-fi flick and a bad one. In Time, starring Justin Timberlake, promises potential. Like the beer at the end of a hard work day, the trailer offers the hope of something good. I want this movie to be amazing, golly do I, and I see no reason why it won’t be. The idea is pretty unique and certainly has merits, seeing how our society is in a never-ending war with trying to stay young forever. Fueled with enough action, intrigue, and excitement to keep all the non-metaphysicians happy, I’ll be watching this opening weekend.

Introducing the New ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’

Posted by okarbank on August 7, 2011

Wednesday featured the revealing of the new Spider-Man for Marvel’s Ultimate Universe in the popular series, Ultimate Fallout. With Peter Parker killed just a few weeks ago in the Death of Spider-Man story line, the question as to who would take the mantle of the famous web-slinger weighed incessantly on everybody’s mind. Now the identity of the new Spider-Man has been revealed as Miles Morales, a half-black and half-Latino young man. Obviously Marvel is attempting to branch out with a more ethnic superhero, in an effort to create popular multi-racial characters,  not wanting to simply stay with the typical white male cast. Frankly, I don’t have any problems with this; it’s an interesting take to say the least and this is we have alternate universes. For those of you who want your white Spider-Man, then there are still plenty of titles in the regular Marvel universe books. However, I can’t help but notice how Miles looks a tad like our current president. Maybe that’s just me. While his origin story wasn’t released on Wednesday, come September with the new Ultimate Spider-Man series, all will be explained…hopefully.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Trailer 1

Posted by okarbank on August 5, 2011

I realize many of you have already seen this trailer, but I don’t care. I’ve been terribly behind on my blog and only now am I catching up. Anyway, The Amazing Spider-Man. Directed by Marc Webb, I feel as though I’m one of the few people to be captivated with the new Spider-Man movie. Webb, known more for his art films, certainly brings a new feel to the superhero film franchise. Unfortunately, I’m not sure everyone is ready for such a change. As a die-hard Spidey fan, I’m intrigued to see a story revolving around Peter Parker’s parents and Pete’s general geekiness. With a darker look, I can totally understand the intention. Most every Spider-Man story revolving around the parents of Peter Parker has been dark and kind of angsty. As for the villain of the movie, the Lizard, I have problems watching scientist Curt Connors acting like an insane megalomaniac, when in the comics all he really wanted was to re-grow his arm.

And Here’s Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

Posted by okarbank on August 5, 2011

Eh. Instead of looking actually like Catwoman, Hathaway looks like she dropped  out of some wanna-be Blade Runner. I mean, you’d think they’d at least put cat ears on her to emphasize the whole “cat” aspect of her character. But no. I don’t wanna gripe too much though, because I am rather thrilled over the fact that she’s riding the Batpod, suggesting a partnership with Batman.
