I’ll be honest when I say the first thing that popped into my mind as I began watching the trailer was “Seriously?” Taylor Lautner as an action star, well alright then, I suppose stranger things have happened on this planet. As I continued watching the trailer, with the over-the-top action and simply hilarious moments of Lautner dodging gunfire and threatening Alfred Molina, I threw any and all expectations of this movie out the window. In no way do I have high hopes for this movie, except for the unintentional hilarity factor, as the movie escalates ridiculously quickly and takes itself way too seriously. There are some who might think of Taylor Lautner as the next, young, Jason Bourne…just no, people…no.

Hey, Bub, You’re Gonna Enjoy the New X-Men Anime
Posted by okarbank on April 18, 2011
The first three episodes for Madhouse’s X-Men anime have made their way online. Before you ask, there really will be a feature length series for the X-Men, and if it’s in any way as awesome as the first three installments, then I’m sure it will be a smash hit! I’m diggin’ the stylized approach to the X-Men along with the story-line. The writers have gotten the nature of the characters pegged down pretty well, while simultaneously blanketing the show with a bleak and foreboding atmosphere. If you get the chance to watch the show, then do so, for I strongly doubt that you’ll be disappointed.

In the UK and the U.S. Season 6 of Doctor Who finally gets underway with The Impossible Astronaut. Recently there have been a massive amount of press releases and spoilers have been floating around the internet like severed limbs from victims after Jaws had his way with them. Anyway, here’s the trailer for the upcoming episode and from I’ve heard, it’s a doozy and in the best way possible.

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Trailer
Posted by okarbank on April 18, 2011
I realize there are diehard fans of the Planet of the Apes film franchise, and while I’m not one of them, I can definitely appreciate a prequel to the original. There’s always been the question of how everything went down and how humanity lost to apes, and this movie shall finally offer the much awaited answers. As for James Franco starring in the film, I’m not really surprised, considering as he is in every other movie nowadays.

A New Spider-Man Swings Into Action
Posted by okarbank on April 18, 2011
Since Ultimate Spider-Man got shot thru the stomach by the Punisher, Marvel announced a new incarnation of the famous superhero. According to the New York Post:
“Marvel Comics’ most popular character is getting a hip new look – and a new person wearing the webs.
“That’s not Peter Parker,” Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso told The Post. “There’s going to be someone new wearing the costume.”
The new webslinger and the new look – a sleek black and red costume revealed here for the first time – will make their debut at some point this summer, after the conclusion of the ominously titled “Death of Spider-Man” storyline in June’s Ultimate Spider-Man No. 160.
The comic will be polybagged, and will shake the comic book world to the core. “It’s unlike anything you’ve seen before,” Alonso said.
The shakeup marks the first time someone else will be catching thieves just like flies in the “Spider-Man” titles besides Peter (or a clone of Peter – don’t ask) in the character’s almost 50-year history in either the traditional “Marvel Universe” or the more recent “Ultimate Universe.”
Alonso wouldn’t reveal much more about the new wallcrawler – “there’s significance in the color scheme,” he teased – but the image’s release is another bad sign for Peter Parker, who in the ten-year-old Ultimate line of comics is still a Queens high school student.
The perpetually hard luck teen was shot through the gut by anti-hero the Punisher at the close of last week’s issue while trying save Captain America. Comic fans have been burning up the internet speculating whether Peter might survive the storyline, even if his web slinging days are over. Alonso wouldn’t reveal his ultimate fate, but said, “We did call it ‘The Death of Spider-Man’ for a reason.”
An adult Peter Parker will still be manning the role of friendly neighborhood wall-crawler in the regular Marvel Universe “Amazing Spider-Man” title.”
As for myself, I’m deeply intrigued by what the writers are going to do. The whole point of the Ultimate Universe is so Marvel can get away with shenanigans like this, so while a part of me minds that a new person will take up the mantle as Spider-Man, I just wanna see who it will be.

‘Thundercats’ TV Show Is On the Loose!
Posted by okarbank on April 4, 2011
The folks over at WonderCon were also kind enough to show off a trailer for the upcoming Thundercats TV series. Frankly, everything looks damn cool and, having watched the original show, I think it’s safe to say this one has outdone its predecessor. I’m a huge fan of the animation and the story appears spot on, mixing together fantasy and giant robot cats to achieve a perfect blend of awesomeness!

4 Whole Minutes of ‘Green Lantern’!
Posted by okarbank on April 4, 2011
The four minutes of footage premiered at WonderCon over the weekend, footage from the upcoming Green Lantern movie. While many people originally were not impressed with the first trailer, these 4 minutes have seemingly changed the minds of a great many folk. The special effects are looking wonderful, definitely improved since the trailer first emerged, and the tone seems just right. I’m finding myself constantly on the fence as to whether or not I like Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan; sometimes he nails the role perfectly while at other moments he seems like he’s being himself, but with a power ring. Either way, I’m always ready for a good superhero flick and Green Lantern should fit the bill.

BBC America ‘Doctor Who’ Season 6 Trailer
Posted by okarbank on April 4, 2011
While the BBC trailer is infinitely more impressive, the fact that we get some extra footage presents an added bonus. The HD quality is nice and the trailer revs everyone up with anxious anticipation, hoping for April 23 to arrive with haste. Come on, Doctor, hurry it up!
